Capgrossos Apocalypse

 

My friend's cousin had to paint kids stuff. Where I live it's kind of traditional to use papier-mache made giants and big heads. There are parades where giants march even the narrow streets (you can see their heads from your balcony) while big headed dudes dance.

I'm not into that but since it was for kids I decided to spend my Saturday at it. I found the heads not sculpted in clay then molded and cast in papier-mache but made straight out of papier-mache! Let's say the result was... amateur-ish at best. It doesn't matter how good you can paint when the subject is an undefined blob.

Did I mention they used fiberglass over the papier-mache? LOL 😆  it was a pain in the ass to power tool it, putty up and sand many times. I feel like I still have fiberglass splinters on my hands!

We were also short on time and money so I got some Molotow spray cans, masked the eyes with kids plasticine (we had no white) and used a heavy body black acrylic tube I brought from home for the details. I managed to ad a bit of color to the eyes with finger paints laying around and oil paint brown stripes on the cat 's back.

The "art direction" is more a by-product of the sculpture than of what I'd have done if planned from scratch.

El primo de un colega necesitaba canezones para los ñiñoh ahora que vienen fiestas. Aquí se hace esa movida de los gigantes y cabezudos...

Me pidieron ayuda para terminarlos y bueno. Un tanto amateur (el pintado es más fruto de como era la pieza que de mis ideas). Cuando vi que tenía fibra de vidrio por encima del papel mache, buff.

Bueno, les pasé la dremel para que los niños no se cortasen (creo que aún tengo las manos llenas de astillas de fibra) lija, enmasillamos (Sergio me ayudó bastante con la masilla y la lija) y tal.

Como teníamos solo el sábado y poquísima pasta, pillé unas latas Molotow,  enmascaré los ojos con plastelina de los niños (para aprovechar el blanco de la imprimación,  no teníamos color blanco 😆) y cuatro trazos con acrílico negro en tubo, de mi casa. Un poco de óleo en la cabeza del gato y a correr.

Strip. Paint. Repeat. (Heroclix + product review)

I had a shoebox full of heroclix sitting there since... well ever. Always wanted to give them a try but meh.

In a nutshell: Not Worth.

And I haven't even finished the model, just repainted the flesh parts (kinda reminds me of Allison's butter-ish feeling... dunno why but always thought his paint jobs look creamy).

What I've learned:

Ak paint striper just didn't work (for prepainted minis as heroclix). Hated it. Multiple baths and scratches with a toothbrush... it took way too much time and effort. Plus it did nothing to the mini but toothbrush got brittle and broke (wasted 2 toothbrushes indeed).

Nail polish remover worked better (see Raven, the white fig) but the paint was thick and it got too gummy plus the fig got softer.

Finally I used on Cyborg greenstuff World plastic cement to soften the atrocious mold lines and I bet it's pure acetone bc It heavily melted the fig (managed to control that) BUT paint arround the mold line came off liquid like it was dirty water...

I'll try greenstuff paint remover to see how it goes. BTW what's with AK interactive sausage party sense of humor? Really guys?

Paint-wise I primed with petroleum and light lagoon blue from above, both acrylic inks from MOLOTOW in order to sketch the metals.

For the skin I mixed abteilung acrylics (the ones in tubes) Think burnt umber + pastel purple + pink-ish  flesh and orange glaces in the mid tones.

I have to admit to paint convincing dark skin is itself a challenge, not to say doing on the fly (no tutorials nor recipes). But paint such undefined blob of plastic... oomph! By those pics you could think it's a piece of cake but not having proper volumes (eye sockets,  eye lids, and other face features) makes it undermining.

Last but not least: I love it WIP status as it is...bionic parts in blue eemindd me of old-school Cybertronic's Chasseurs (mutant chronicles).

Resulta que tenía una caja llena de heroclix de cuando Cristo perdió la alpargatas que siempre quise repintar y...nada. ahí tirados. La versión corta:  no merece la pena.

Que he aprendido:

El decapante de AK ha sido una decepción. Para miniaturas, seguramente ok. Pero en concreto a estos heroclix no les ha hecho gran cosa. Un proceso arduo. Lento y poco eficiente,  además ha destrozado 2 cepillos de dientes.

El quitaesmalte hacendado pues... más eficiente (contiene acetona) pero replantee la miniatura. A Raven (figura blanca) la ha dejado hecha un cristo porque de fabrica venía con 1 dedo de pintura con lo cual se ha quedado gomosa.

Al final con Cyborg usé pegamento para plástico de greenstuff World para fundir y disimular las rebabas y oh sorpresa! La pintura circundante salía como agua sucia. Borra un poco el detalle, pero bueno... probaré el decapante de GSW porque quiero algo más rápido y/o sencillo.

Por cierto, estos chascarrillos nivel Arévalo, que? Para la etiqueta de una marca "sería" no se... que lo hiciera yo, en plan venta artesanal, más cafre y tal vale, pero la silueta de la chica haciendo pole dancing para el jueguecito de striper... mmmnn... cierto es que es la opinión de un señoro opinando sobre branding de señoros así que xD

Vale, imprimación con petróleo y por encima lagoon blue pastel o light o como se llame. Son tintas (para rotus) MOLOTOW para hacer un esbozo de lo que será el metal y para ver los pobres volúmenes de la figura (atroz).

La pies es a base de acrílicos Abteilung, los que vienen en tubo como la pasta de dientes. No porque tengan "un tono mágico" estilo marrón con toques de púrpura, al revés. Para usar colores muy básicos pero de alta pigmentación y mezclar yo.

Aprox, porque no lo tengo a fuego en el coco es un sombra tostada, con un poco de violeta (pastel) un carne rosado, sienna y naranja (veladuras) para los tonos medios.

La carne oscura ya cuesta, pero con el bajo nivel de detalle de la figura, ufff... ni cuenca de los ojos, ni párpados... pintas un poco modo invent porque tiene poco detalle y modelado muy suave.

Como nota, me encantaría dejarlo azul. Me recuerda a los Chasseurs de Cybertronic (mutant chronicles).

Ol' Dirty Blogger

I hardly can find time and/or energy for the hobby. Also I noticed my eyes got older. Now I need magnification devices.

Still I managed to do stuff here and there but never shared online, bc blogging adds up to the  hassle.

Today I feel the F*ck Off strong in me, so I'm uploading dirty  straight from the train on my way back from work. 

Random toy. Parrot was chewing it so I decided to steal it back and randomly build over.

Funny enough I used sculpey over plastic and baked it all (twice at least at this point) not giving a single fuck about it melting whatsoever.

Can't say much about the design,  it was an on the fly affair. I plan to use it as a demon leader for Reign in Hell.

Hindu / Thai vibes going on. May do metals gold, paint him blue and make the weapon a fork.

Últimamente no tengo nintiempo ni fuerzas para el hobby. Menos aún paradas documentando...

Alguna cosa he hecho pero tengo que ponerme con las fotos y tal y cual y.

El caso es que me gusta mirar lo que hago. Me embobo. Y como tengo la vista fatal (ya uso lupa) pues he ido sacando fotos de esto y hoy en el tren he dicho, que cojones!

Me he liado menos bloguisticamente hablando y he aprovechado lo que tenía en el móvil y el tiempo de trayecto trabajo-casa para postear. Ojito que el texto en la lengua de Cervantes la estoy picando en el "trono de hierro" Camilo José Cela style.

Escatología y hechos verídicos a parte, esto es un juguete de mierda que rondaba por casa desde ni se sabe y que el loro se estaba comiendo.

Será un líder demonio para Reign in Hell con rollito hindú / Thai que seguramente pinte con dorados toda la parafernalia (corona, arma, cinto...) y la piel originalmente pensé que sería roja pero tal vez la haga azul estilo Kali.

Está mas fuerte que el vinagre, eh primo?

 Cheap update. I'm alive. FML really, it appears that most of my "public" (I never thought I had any other than Allison and a couple of Internet  nuts -u know who you are, stfu Demi!- ) comes from overseas and ((shock intensifies)) most do used Mac.

Useless data I guess. BTW kinda fell into nihilistic  mindset lately so hobby feels quite futile and it's not happening. 

2 years ago just seeing a dog scratching his butt into the ground would have made my day. Maybe I'm less stupid nowadays but mostly it's that I haven't seen any lately.

World is upside down! Have itchy butts disappeared? Please let them butts itch, for commedy's sake.

Less about butt and more about hobby maybe soon, maybe never. You better not stay tuned, I'd rather watch grass grow instead.

Necrosaur cyberbuttlord

 

Ok. I can't cast miniatures till I can mix enough resin so I started another master, this time a big guy that might help bulk production.

This is gonna be sort of ezoghoul / zoat-esque centaurean dude, so after looooong time I got the 1st half. I'll sculpt and cast upper torso separately because reasons.

It makes sense in my head hope you like it. May I complete it within 1 or 2 weeks God speed.

Vale. No puedo sacar copias de miniaturas porque uno o dos moldes es demasiado poca resina para pesar/mezclar vien (xD) así que estoy en esas de hacer más originales y al final entacarme haciendo todos las reproducciones.

Este va a ser una especie de ezoghoul / zoat. Me ha llevado la vida pero ya tengo el culete de este centauro. Lo haré en 2 piezas, así que en breve (juas!) el torso.

Espero que te guste, en mi cabeza tiene sentido.
