Let me be clear about the miniature; I haven't sculpted it, so it's just my paint job.
It belongs to blue moon legends and it's a token. It's fairly different from magic and the box contains it all ( about 8 complete factions, and expansions ) so there's no need to dish extra money.
You basically have to equal or surpass your opponent's combat value which may be earth or fire, and element switches thru the you go I go kind of game. Whoever can't keep the pace or decides to retreat makes the opponent win a dragon. Get 3 and you win the game, make your opponent go thru his deck and you win once he/she runs out of cards.
An amazing almost text free 2 player self contained card game by Reinier Knizia. It gets better the more you play against the same person so it's lovely for couples.

Wow! Really nice! It's a pleasure to see your take on someone else's sculpt once in a while :). I like the red/black scheme here, it makes me think of lava. Are you going to do the other dragons too?
ResponderEliminarAlso thanks for the game review. I might have to check out Blue Moon Legends, my wife and I are always looking for good couples' games. We have Jaipur and Seven Wonders Duel, both are good but variety IS the spice of life :D
Blue and Green dragons are already painted, have lots of finished stuff to photograph indeed.
EliminarWe own 7 wonders duel and Jaipur too. Great games.
Blue moon legends (blue moon city is another beast) has so many pros and almost no cons:
Almost text less cards. Just 2 stats (fire and earth, you decide based on what you got on hand the element yoully fight for)
Almost no rules nor keywords
No bookkeeping
Everything in one box: all factions ever.
Straight forward game flow and rulebook. You start with 2 factions and everyone you switch to a new one you are introduced to a new rule/keyword
Rules for building your own deck
No playing cards mana cost nor BS, turn phase written in both sides of the board.
Unique writing. Cards are written (when it applies) to be read out loud, i.e. if you got a card that reads "YOU must discard a card" means your opponent has to. Brilliant.
Ease of play. It's as much about the cards as your opponent's mindset. How many cards are you willing to spend or waste to win a dragon? The less deck you burn the better. That's why the more you play against the same opponent the funnier as it gets tight in the sense you can ponder how much you can bait her into wasting cards yet she will tease you to death.
Me & wife are kind enough to each other but the time I played with my lifetime friend we were about to waste the whole deck in just 1 combat.
It's the 2? I got 2 too...so just 2? Here's my 4, beat that fool. Then the dude negates next "combat/bidding phase" with an action card so my 4 went to the trash bin for no reason. Etc.
There's great math behind the game but you really are enjoying the 'take that' aspect of it.
I'd say it's superior to jaipur but will shut about 7w duel. It's from Bruno Cathala and this dude knows what he's doing.
Blue moon setting is irrelevant as Knizia's games are pure math goodness with theme pasted on, but lore-wise and art is like Jim Henson created Magic the gathering.
Wow! What a glowing review! Thanks for this... I don't think our FLGS has the game in stock but I'm sure they could order it in. It sounds like a lot of fun.
EliminarUnfortunately the missus and I have figured out each other's favorite Carcassonne strategies, and neither of us is good enough at 7 Wonders yet for the outcome to be anything but semi random... A friend of ours has started hosting semi-regular gaming nights, but they live in another city and so it's sometimes difficult for us to attend. So more two player games always welcome.
Love the mini and paintjob!
ResponderEliminarThanks pal, kindly appreciate the comment :) Internet is such a cold place at times...
