Vallejo Review: Wash vs. Ink vs. Transparent

Wash vs. Inks vs. Trans.

Well, this is a kind of payoff for all those tutorials and reviews I've round arround the interwebs (lifetime) and hence, is dedicated to all those people who invested their time shooting videos, writing stuff and/or painstakingly cpturing everything with photos. Next stop, the review!

I make my own minis even for a given example :(

Surprisingly, there are enough stuff arround about what an ink and a wash are and the diferences between, but none features comparaison pics nor mention to transparent colors. Far from writting a book here, I've primed white three similar sculpts made on purpose, and then gave them three thin coats of White. Next step was to shake them bottles (not recomended for washes) and liberally apply a coat over White and ley you take tour own judgement.

Epilogue:

Vallejo Wash: milky consistency, tech product, no matter how it looks set, once dry it's matte and sets arround and into detail automatically fading. Took me fewer drops tan others to cocer hall the model. Recomended "as is" and can be used in a variety of forms (thinned, etc). A monkey could use it and get good results.

Vallejo Ink: water-like cosistency, dries shiny. Much like old citadel inks but not as saturated. Low oppacity. Lacks washes' brains; pools and can dry nasty so you should control how and where to aply. Has its uses but not as versatile as washes. took me more drops to cover a model than wash.

Vallejo Transparent: gel (honey-like) consistency, exactly as tamiya transparents. Satin finish once dry. Extremely high pigmentation with just 1 coat. Viscosity favours leaving brushstrokes and product stays where you leave it, don't pool, etc. Took me the most number of drops to evenly cover a model. Limited uses (tinte metals, canopies, blood effects... very specific stuff).

Focus arround texture and detail.

Hope this fills the hole I found, and will help someone out there. Lemme kno what do u think!

More than meets the eye

A Clash of Heroes (might & magic game) figure I had sitting arround for months. They are made of rubber and if I learned something from this is that you should take pics of your miniatures right after primming; that will help you ntice nasty mouldlines.

Ok. I hated this one, thematically speaking. It dame in a pack of 7 figures worth 5.95€ so those would make excelent minis at great quality (Toy store q, not dollar store q.) for less tan 1€. I used a band from a djinn and a demon's fire (forehead, looked ugy on the original mini).

Then used tamiya putty to give him a jeanstealer-ish appearance (mistery face) yet late I went for a more classic face and cheap brownepoxy to fill gaps Voliá, patriarc in disguise.

A ver si saco fotos hoy o...maaaaañana.

it's too... (pt.2)

All hail the Space Mariachi! Painted it twice indeed; it was too dark compared to my 1st speshh mareen, so I glazed it to death in order to make him a bright guy. Tried to keep it as roguetradeish as I could.

it's too... (pt.1)

I painted (and posted) this fellow time ago and now I've painted another marine I realized it was too...light. So Ive been trying to balance the blue to a darker hue. Hope you like it now better. Already have the second marine's pics. I'll upload them as soon as I crop the stuff.
