When Science Epic Fails...

I wanted to pay homage to a person I've been following on the internet since 1st time I stumbled upon his pics at CMoN. The idea was to sculpt an infamous videogame Scientist character but given the stupid scale I use and his damn weird armor design it was impossible for me to do so. Many years later (my 1st try was arround the time I sculpted the headcrab / nosecrab scientist, quite long ago) I started from scratch and here are the results. Hope you like it "mr. AM"  you know who you are. :)

Next week a post about robots and dinosaurs. Or maybe an ultramarine army, but most likely, this guy painted. Cya!

Procedo a enmendar.

'ERE WE GO!

One way ride to hell ...and BACK!

Hope this is quality enough; those pics were taking with the phone anyway. It's painted and I gave object source lighting a try. Not bad for my 1st attempt (AFAIK). Few info on this:

He's a big guy, sitting on a 4x4 cm square base (my regular sized minis are 2x2). The idea was taken from a fellow blogger (picture included at the end); a big ass demon that I kinda reimagined as a stone idol starting to move, breaking apart as hell's flames burst from it's now cracked body. The old heroquest gargoyle was taken into account too. Later I learned that the original mini was meant to be a balrog, sigh*. It was painted both in acrylics and oils.

Now the scary part. My wife shot the pics. And there were ok but the angle was too low for my taste. The mini has been sitting painted for few days now. So today I was going to take more pics and guess... it had a blob of water on it. Ok. Fine. Took a napkin to take care of it. But when lloking thru the phone the water was there gain. I repeated the operation several times till I noticed the demon miniatures was bleeding clean water! I was so amazed I took a video of it (see below) Has it ever happened to anyone of you ? a miniature sweating or crying tears of clean water out of nothing... And I add again; it did not happen yesterday, and the mini was painted days ago. And the weather is fine. And... this is madness!

I'm out

Original one

Estoy flipando. Porque lleva pintada y barnizada hace dias. Y aparece una gota en la sobaquera. Agua limpia.

No es inquietante Carmen ? Bienvenidos a la nave del misterio.

I bought a one way ride to hell...

Hi, it's been long for sure, a year or so... frankly I've not been sculpting in a while and in case of painting it serves a greater good; upgrading my gaming experience. Cause I used to create and paint miniatures for no reason but joy itself, but ceased to play games long ago. Now I play a lot of boardgames wich involve cards, dice and carboard but rarely minis. That and the fact I loved the hobby but never liked writing, taking photos, cropping, adding watermarks, etc. made it easyer to abandon this project. I'm not the social network kind of guy neither; I'm not going into forums being like "hey, watch my stuff" so people who landed here found it by their own merits. meaning that I've always had the conviction only me and 2 or 3 weird-minded individuals cared about the stuff the blog was about.

Recently, 2 bloggers surprsed me with kind words about how much they liked the blog. And I felt guilty, like letting down a friend. So to pay homage to one of them I deliberately ripped off one of his ideas and made my own version. Hope he enjoys. Now the technical stuff: 59% tinfoil paper, 1% glue, 3% wire, 27% super sculpey type putty (studio green, premo orangey-cooper, clay softener) and 20% love. Yes, its over 100%. That's why it's awesome. Thanks for sticking arround, whoever is reading this :)

Tip: if your mini has multiple parts that have to be equal, make a mould!
Tomorrow (Sunday) will take pics and update with fully painted figure.

He querido rendir tributo a Flecha (hospitaun.blogspot) copíandole una miniatura y reimaginándola a mi manera.

Dozens of new stuff... all the same!

Well, sorry about the lack of news. I hope you had a Merry Xmas and by the way, happy new year 2015!

Those are pieces for the awesome boardgame COSMIC ENCOUNTER. Just made 2 colors so far, hi-tech metallic energy boosted PURPLE player and Low tech rusty GREEN player.

Kinda reiniscent of Halo UNSC and the covenant color schemes I guess.

Below you can see test pieces wich took me to produce (3 pieces) as much time than it took me to do the rest (17 pieces). Each player set done in about 3 hours, matt varnish pending.

Feed my Frankenstein

Again, a pale base color (AP necrotic flesh) highlighted (VMC german yellow) washed and glazed in green and blue (both hues usin AP inks and its Vallejo wash counterparts) respectively to achieve a classic/ cartoon look.

VGC extraopaque (dark) grey washed in AP dark tone and final tuch ups to tweak contrast.

Fun and relative quick sculpt/ paintjob. He's on a 20mm square base so for my standards it's a walking pile of muscle.

Dunno what's next. Suggestions accepted ;)

How to make a monster

Lately I've seen people being little upset due to 1st attempts at sculpting. Most common issue is that people try to work in one sitting instead of layers (letting the previous layer to set and harden so next layer won't warp shapes and proportions you did before).

So I atempted to knock off 3 birds with a rock; trying to show how far I went sculpting before I switched materials (so you can appreciate I did it in 2 sitting, judging by putty color), to present a propper halloween post and also to thank the participation on my blog lately.

On a side note, I stretched it way too much. I'd say it's safer (considering such miniature of course, other scales may vary) to do feet and body shape in one go, then arms, then its head to finally move into details.

It's already painted so If weather allows it, I'll be taking pics and posting it in technicolor!

Coming next; how to paint a monster...
