Fan-tasm (to be gone)

Hi,nearly unreadable pic here, but it's done on purpose to avoid spoiling the final model.

It's supposed to be a ghost, well a possessed fresh corpse (someone just killed the last combat round or maybe a sacrifice). The problem here is how to make it look ghostly, apart from the paintjob wich I've already planned.

The robes were meant to make him look like floating and despite half liking them (still need a lot of work to be done there) by the time you read this I'd be destroying them unless I get flooded by " U nutz man !!1!? " style messages wich I doubt.

Problem here is that, making cartoon / comic strip-like miniatures has a lot of style restrictions. It's not that I can't sculpt ultra realistic (well I ain't that good anyway) but that it won't fit, like masters of the universe style of character into a simpsons episode. You need to simpsonize it before.

So this mini feels IMO like a rackham mini in the mitrhil miniatures range, just sort of out of place sculpt and hence, I may resculpt it to have legs and look like levitating, looking more simple and not so standing out the rest of the line.

Results, in a week (or less).

...and allways remember to TREAT YOUR MOTHER RIGHT!

WSF vs. WD

3D printed mini courtesy of Horacio (design) and Shapeways (printing services). Left one is WSF aka white strong flexible material. Right one is WD or white detal.

As you can see WSF retains crisp detail but ends up havig rough enough texture to drive you mad when trying to paint it.

WD on the other hand, while smooth, detail is a bit smudged and well... see the more contrasted pic. You remember old printers (paper) that worked printing in rows and thus creating small lines of white between them ? The same happens to 3d printing with WD material paralel positive lines do appear all over the surface. ( see the mohawk part )

Please remember that the Rogue Trader marine featured few entries ago was 3D printedin WSF insterad of hand-sculpted and some advices to get rid of the rough textures were given. Cheers.

Hey, I recently got a small Milhouse toy from inside a chocolate egg. What can I say, I love cocoa related stuff. I somehow disliked the toy but loved the way the head was sculpted and, missing a lot the times when I wargamed the hell out of my minis I decided to start a small terrain piece (furniture) wich incidentally was one of th parts I liked most from wargaming.

I severed the head, mixed some milliput and kneadatite, sanded and filed a lot while watching the tv, added vallejo lava rock texture (thinned down) primed and painted. All red, brown, sepia and black washes over the metal (not shown in pics) feel now like a waste of time cause don't shouw up under the rust, but was fun anyway. A donut and a couple of green+blue glaces later it looked like that.

A notorious scientist or a fascist dictator ? I couldn't help to add the moustache :) Overall this roughly 30mm tall statue fits well my cartoon-like miniatures.

Have a happy weekend ya'll... I hope to have a great time at IAMX gig despite my faringitis (can't talk but can write as you see)

See ya.
