Sant Jordi 13

K, St. George time. Here it's a big day. You give your "princess" a rose (grown from the dragon's blood), she gives you back a book. Free books and dragons, easily my fave day of the year.

This is part of a 4 part vignettes. Part 3 to be exact. Time ago I made part 1 where he fought a blue dragon. Back at the time he looked like a inmaculate templar. I supposed so many years later and after killing so much stuff his robes were soaked in monsters' blood, turning him reckless and full of rage. That's why now he's a little more chaotic/neutral than good, abandoning his knight's shield in favor of a second weapon as now he only care about bringing death no matter it's to dragonkind or to himself trying.

See that at the bottom ? a Vellejo's bottle tip. He's that tiny. Maybe 4 or 5 mm tall. His posse is so damn epic if you ask me... love it. The coin is 5€cents, plus a primed shot on a lollypop stick. Next week I'll be doing the dragon. Hope you liked it. Cheers!

Vale, "Sant Jordi".

  1. Wow, I am crazy impressed. Tiny and epic at the same time. You should make molds of these sometime so you can reproduce them somehow (resin?). I would love to have a cast of this little guy.

The pics look like he picked up a little texture in the priming, which was presumably spray. Try brushing on Vallejo surface primer. It's typically used for airbrushing, but is lovely for brushing on too. It produces zero texture. Zero. I haven't spray primed a model since I started using it.

    1. Thanks both for the tip (sure I'll get a brush on primer!) and the compliment. BTW he is so tiny primer's grain look bigger thn actually is. Also it's so small I don't know it it would be possible for a non-industrial guy to have such small stuff propperly molded, I'll try tho.

    2. You could try that 2-part silicone putty stuff to make molds. It's really expensive for what you get, but you wouldn't need to mix up very much to replicate things this small.

I can't get over how small this guy is, either... he seems about the same size as my Copplestone hobbits, and those boggle my mind too.

    3. Probably he means he lacks vacuum and pressure machinery that would help reduce/eliminate bubbles, which with a so small part, would just kill it.

On polyurethane primer, it is good good for some materials if you manage to avoid blobs, like common miniature plastic; but with others, I find it unacceptable. You can look up the people complaining about poor adhesion to brass, aluminium and other metals. You need special primer before PU with car applications (real cars, not scale ones), that was my final hint about current PU tech. And sanding it is average, as it behaves more like rubber than other primers.

I have to try artist gesso. "Everyone" likes it, I have seen plenty of demos, it sounds great, but I really need to try it and torture it like the PU one.
